Vote now for the Best Places to Work in Academia

Help us provide you with comparative information on the best academic institutions worldwide.

It's time for this year's Best Places to Work in Academia survey, powered by you, our readers. Take a few minutes to fill out our survey (you can do it anonymously), and add your opinion to the pool. Every vote counts. Then in November, find out how your institution faired against others in the factors you ranked most important in defining a great workplace, and use the data to help you decide your next career move.

In 2006, scientists ranked St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, in Memphis, Tennessee, number 1 in the United States. See what you voted as the top institutions in the United Kingdom and Canada. This year we want to cover academic institutes in more geographical areas, so help us rank all of the institutions around the world by taking part in this year's survey.

Last year, your colleagues said that they valued their institutions' atmosphere of collegiality between co-workers, fairness in promotion, and adequate health benefits, over many other factors. Are these factors still important to you now? Have your say in this year's survey.

Help us paint the most accurate picture of your institution by completing our survey and e-mailing the link to your friends and colleagues. We want to know - in your words - what you love and hate about your research institution. For our part we'll extract the most compelling details and report on how the top institutions compare in terms of funding, publications and citation data.

Give us your honest appraisal of your institution here.

Thanks for taking part.

In US, it is boss-based. The worst place can have a godly boss. So what is the POINT?

Friendly atmosphere, open communication between faculty, staff and students, nice campus, national and international atmosphere, great small city, U.S. bike's capital, great weather, environmentally concerned population, close to the San Francisco Bay Area and Lake Tahoe and the Sierra Nevada. I left it 20 years ago and still missing the place.
