Response to "Why Fire the post-doc?" by anonymous poster [Comment posted 2009-12-07 11:28:36] Well if being foreign is ground for falsification in Science, then Science is in big troubles.
The problem is not about being foreign, but more about how people with different cultural backgrounds can handle pressure and stress. Maybe we should recognize the cultural differences and educate people which are less oriented to ethical behaviour. Shouldn't we? Scientific Fraud? by anonymous poster [Comment posted 2009-12-04 13:38:13] After 40 years of busting my butt to do quality work, I say strip all of 'em naked & turn them out into the streets! But that's just me. Why Fire the post-doc? by anonymous poster [Comment posted 2009-12-03 21:06:39] This refers to the an comment. The suggestion to fire the post doc is ridiculous. The sole blame should go to the PI. PI is suppose to monitor the activity and supervise the lab.
I know (partly from experience) that many of the most Post doc in USA come from Asian country, and they have to keep quiet and tolerate the not so ethical behavior and exploitation -as if they are fired they have to leave the country due to the Emigration status -this can be torturous as in most of the Asian countries the employment is not possible due to age bar. The million dollar question is when the true science driven by plain curiosity will be started? and not based on the careerism and money? How long will it take? I feel pity on those poor people whose money is been wasted by the irresponsible scientist. More some other time! Fire them! by anonymous poster [Comment posted 2009-12-03 16:19:48] That former postdoc, where ever he/she is must be fired. The papers published since this came to light need to checked by an independent entity. Just another tip of the iceberg by anonymous poster [Comment posted 2009-12-02 16:17:45] I'm sure there are more where he came from. And even more get away with "less" overt lies by mixing lies with facts to enhance their research results or the results that they wished to find. The snowballing effect of many, little misinformations or lies from the research publications have only compounded the uncertainties and contradictions that has led to confusion and mistrust by the general public. The real story is how THAT got hired elsewhere! by Ellen Hunt [Comment posted 2009-12-02 12:28:43] There are competent and excellent immunologists (a surplus of qualified people in biosciences generally) available. So how is that these liars and cheaters remain in respectable positions in academic institutions? This is like seeing embezzlers rewarded with swanky positions in banks!
Corruption is a growing problem that I have talked about before. Science, particularly bioscience, is corrupt in a way it has never been before. I know of others who have become professors on the basis of lies, made up data and ethnic as well as social networks. I have become convinced based on quite a few incidents, that today, one of the primary qualifications for completing a PhD in a number of prominent labs is corruption. There is absolutely NO justification for allowing this man to work one more hour at ANY respectable university. Comment on this blog |
