On and on and on . . . . by Heleen van beusekom [Comment posted 2009-10-21 01:29:27] I received an email this morning, now from Monica.
"This is Monica in charge of Track 4: Interventional Cardiology . . . Today I am writing to confirm whether my last mail for session speaker was sent to you successfully." I had read about it in the Scientist so thought I'd better reread the item. Reading the comments I realize they keep on going . . . in every possible field of research, from antibodies to interventional cardiology. Someone is really keeping track of literature. The news-item was obviously a good warning ! Thanks for that. Heleen van Beusekom Got my invitation! I'm very excited! (from "Sean") by ONDINE CLEAVER [Comment posted 2009-09-29 14:27:18] Apparently, the "conference" is still a go!

However, the program is so detailed, specific as to individuals and extensive that surely this cannot be a scam, although there may well be scams riding on the back of this conference. How does one discover whether the basic invitation is genuine or not ? As you have raised the spectre of fraud, it falls on you to clarify as soon as possible whether invitees should treat this as genuine or not, and what precautions they can take regarding financial involvement. Legitimate - and not legitimate conferences by WALTER WOLF [Comment posted 2009-09-16 19:56:06] Dear Colleagues:
I get at least 2 "invitations" for such conferences on a weekly basis. I never respond. I would only consider if an invitation were to come from one of the recognized and established societies, or if were to come from a scientist I know personally and he/she contacts me directly with full details. Is it safe yet? by CHERYL MASLEN [Comment posted 2009-08-19 14:41:53] Thank you for the article about the financial problems associated with this conference. I was recently invited to be a speaker and was surprised to learn that there were significant financial strings attached. I was still considering my options when I saw the article in the Scientist about the financial headaches encountered by other invited speakers. In spite of some evidence that the situation is improving, I remain concerned that accepting this invitation may come with some unacceptable risks.
