This morning former vice president Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) were awarded the 2007 Nobel Prize "for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change."

According to a statement posted on his Web site, Gore plans to donate his share of the 10 million kronor ($1.56 million) prize to the Alliance for Climate Protection.
