Less Text=Better Posters

I am all for making posters more attractive and using different technologies, however the biggest fault with most posters is too much text and this is apparent in the posters in the slide show of this article.
My students always used to laugh when I reviewed their draft poster before printing and slashed their sentence construction back to the most basic point form..... until we were at a conference where there were a number of very attractive posters with too much text in too small a font. Combined with lack of space between rows of posters and lights reflecting off the posters, these very attractive posters were unreadable.
Less is definitely more when it comes to posters. If people want more information about a poster they can always ask!
My students no longer laugh when I edit their posters and they have also won a number of best poster prizes.
